Jaguar E-Type Development – The E-Type Arrives

Jaguar E-Type Series One Classic Sports Car It is now over twelve years since the Jaguar XK 120 was launched and the car has come a long way to evolve into our classic E-Type Jaguar that we hire for outings in Yorkshire and beyond. Unlike the Jaguar XK 120, which itself was also a road car, the Jaguar E-Type was much more of a racing car as well as a road car and, in fact, the E-Type did perform on the racing circuits and, like its father the D-Type, it was well up to the job.

When you compare the two classic cars, the D-Type Jaguar and the E-Type Jaguar, there is no doubt at all the latter is modelled after the former, but the E-Type Jaguar is also much more than its predecessor.

The new Jaguar E-Type of 1961 was an awe inspiring machine, both mechanically and in its design. It was the first production car to have independent rear suspension. It had a 3.8 litre ‘gold top' XK engine, which had previously been used in the most powerful XK 150 ‘S' models. However the inside of the cabin was much lighter and far simpler than the XK 150'S. The E-Type Jaguar was a soft top with a hardtop version available in the Roadster. The car was fitted with disk brakes all round, making it years ahead of its time, and wire wheels gave the car an extra elegance.

Our E-Type Jaguar classic sports car for hire isn't simply all looks though, the performance of the car was truly astonishing at the time, blowing away anything else on the road by reaching speeds of 150 miles per hour, and getting from 0 to 60 in 6.8 seconds! The car also manages 17 miles per gallon of fuel, which for  a sports/racing car is outstanding - coupled with the humble price of £1600 there was simply no other sports car available that could match it in looks, engineering and affordability.   NEXT the E-type engine development
