Jaguar E-Type Development, Jaguar XK120 and Jaguar C-Type

Jaguar XK120 classic sports car As well as being one of our most beautiful Yorkshire classic hire cars, the E-Type Jaguar also has one of the most exciting classic car ancestries. The design of the E-Type Jaguar classic sports car did not come about by accident and it was not, like other classic cars, merely a design to attract sales and follow fashions.

The Jaguar E-Type classic sports car has its roots on the race track, if you look at earlier models you can see how the car evolved into our Jaguar E-Type classic hire cars that are driven around the Yorkshire countryside by classic thrill seekers.

Jaguar XK120 Classic Sports Car The Jaguar XK120 was one of the first post war sports cars that really took aerodynamic styling into consideration, it still has vestiges of older cars like the whitewall tyres in some cases and two part split windscreen, but the body itself is very aerodynamic compared to other cars of the time and the windscreen is angled back to allow the air to flow over the top easier.

C-Type Jaguar Classic Sports Car The C-Type Jaguar, where we begin to pick up the naming for our Jaguar ‘E'-Type classic hire car, is an all out racing machine and in fact came first in the Le Mans 24 hours race at its first attempt in 1951, driven by Peter Walker and Peter Whitehead, and won again in 1953 (with a lighter and improved chassis and body) when Duncan Hamilton and Tony Rolt drove the car to stardom, setting a record for the first car to ever race the 24 hour Le Mans at an average speed above 100mph. All the old fashioned styles are removed from this car and we begin to see the old pre-war fashions morphing into what will become our E-Type Jaguar classic hire car.

Now you may be wondering what happen to the A-Type Jaguar and the B-Type Jaguar, well the fact is that the C in C-Type actually stood for ‘Competition', which reflected its intent as a fully fledged racing car. After the success of the C-Type Jaguar at Le Mans, other teams inevitably began to copy the engineering of Jaguar. In the C-Type's final year at Le Mans, 1954, it came fourth with Roger Laurent and Jacques Swaters driving so, to keep themselves ahead of the motor racing game, Jaguar developed the D-Type.  NEXT
